Communications & Marketing Intern
Seattle ReCreative promotes creativity, community, and environmental stewardship through creative reuse and arts education. ReCreative fulfills this mission by collecting donations of used materials that might otherwise end up in the landfill and redistributing them to our community through our retail shop and art classes.
The creative reuse center, which includes a community workshop, retail store, and children’s play space, has been open on Greenwood Avenue since January 2015. As Seattle’s first creative reuse center, ReCreative has been enthusiastically welcomed by the community and is a growing organization on a path to success. So far this year, ReCreative has diverted 46 tons of usable materials from the waste stream (with the help of our partners at Ballard Reuse). ReCreative has also provided art instruction to over 1,000 children and motivated volunteers to donate more than 3,000 hours of their time.
Seattle ReCreative is seeking a Communications & Marketing Intern to support and expand the organization’s communications, marketing, and outreach efforts.
Help launch ReCreative’s new blog on the website. Create procedures and best practices for blog posting. Write and publish blog posts on a regular basis.
Develop relevant content about creative reuse, arts and crafts, and other relevant topics for social media
Promote ReCreative’s events and programs through online channels by: posting event information on free online calendars, contacting local media, writing newsletter features, reaching out to partner organizations, drafting press releases, etc.
Taking photos for blog posts, website, and other promotional purposes
Provide support to the Marketing & Communications Committee and help implement ReCreative’s marketing plan as needed.
Photographing events, classes, and other opportunities to use in organization’s promotional materials
Strong written and oral communication skills, including writing for a variety of audiences and platforms.
Experience using social media, ideally in a professional capacity.
Experience or strong interest in nonprofit organizations.
Interest in both environmental issues and/or alternative art and arts education (ideally both).
Detailed-oriented, self-starter who can take a project and run with it.
Experience in photography (desired but not required)
Internship length: We would like a minimum of a 3-month commitment, with the possibility to extend depending on the intern’s interests and organization’s needs.
Anticipated start date: January 15, 2016 (flexible)
Schedule: 8-10 hours/week. The weekly schedule can be flexible, depending on the intern’s other commitments. The intern should be extremely available and responsive by email.
Benefits to the Intern:
This is an unpaid position and we are happy to work with the student to arrange for college credit. Other benefits include: $20 monthly craft credit in the store and invitation to volunteer appreciation events.
