Scrap Quilting Workshops

In these fun quilting classes, scrap quilter Joyce Romsos will teach both new and experienced quilters how to let loose and quilt with scrap fabric. Scrap quilting is a fantastic way to use up leftovers from other quilts, scrap bags and thrift store finds.  It can also be a chance to trade blocks with other quilters.

Note:  All the print fabrics will be provided, but you are welcome to bring some of your own and share if you like. Some solid color fabric choices will be available for the sashing and border, but feel free to bring your favorite solid or tone on tone cotton fabric (2/3 yd).

Tools: Sewing machines will be provided, but you may bring your own if you wish.  If you have a rotary cutter and/or a 6” x 24” or 6” x 12” quilting ruler, please bring it. Otherwise, we will provide rotary cutters and rulers.

Scrappy DOLL QUILT

This coin quilt is fast, easy, and very satisfying to make.  The size is perfect for a doll quilt, wall quilt or table topper.  I will show you a clever technique for strip piecing and getting the look of a scrap quilt when using only 10 print fabrics.  You will learn how to sandwich the quilt using the tied method and other quilting methods will be discussed.  This pattern works really well with small prints and is especially fun with vintage fabrics.  The finished size is approximately 20 x 25 inches.

About the Instructor

Joyce Romsos is a garden designer, ‘get down in the dirt’ gardener, and garden mentor by trade.  During the rainy season and off hours, she is a completely addicted modern eclectic quilter and fiber artist.  ‘The scrappier, the more outside the (straight) lines, the better’ is her motto.  It all started when she took an amazing art quilting class from Rosalie Dace the week of 9/11.  Rosalie taught the freedom of improvisational piecing, the use of recycled scraps, and the impact of stitching and embellishments. Scrap quilts are the best….a chance to use up leftovers from other quilts, scrap bags and thrift store finds.  It can also be a chance to trade blocks with other quilters.  She also works with fiber in creating small wall hangings with loads of texture and color.
